Professor Erol Gelenbe received the Honour of Commander of the Order of the Crown on Jan 23rd 2024 in Paris at the Delegation Wallonie-Bruxelles. The honour was awarded by H. M. the King of Belgium upon the request of the Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique (FNRS), for Erol's exceptional contributions to research in Belgium during his six years as Professor at the University of Liege (1973-1979), where he developed Diffusion Approximations for Queueing Systems, and other original research methods, which are still in use today at IITIS and other research institutes. The medal was bestowed to him by Professor Veronique Halloin, the Secretary General of the FNRS and President of the European Science Foundation, who presented Erol's contributions to Belgium in detail, including the reports and events he prepared for the Royal Academy of Belgium where he is a Fellow since 2015.
